Traditional cycle training puts children on a cycle with pedals and tries to teach balance and pedalling at the same time. This is the slow way. Our method — used by professional cycling academies globally — separates the two skills completely.
Day 1: We lower the seat so the child's feet touch the ground flat. We remove the pedals entirely. The child learns to scoot, glide and balance on the moving cycle with zero risk of falling. Within 30–45 minutes most children are gliding confidently for several metres.
Day 2 onwards: Only once balance is natural and confident do we reattach the pedals. By this point the child already knows how to balance — adding pedalling is easy and fast. This is why most children learn in 5–8 sessions rather than weeks of frustrating traditional training.

One bad fall is enough to make a child refuse to go near a cycle for months or even years. This is one of the most common situations Experative trainers handle — and we are specifically experienced in rebuilding cycling confidence in children who have developed fear.
Before Session 1 we discuss the child's specific fear with the parent — what happened, how long ago, what the child says about cycles. Our trainer approaches Session 1 as a trust-building exercise, not a training session. The child is never put on the cycle before they are ready.
Fear-based cases move at the child's pace entirely — even if that means Session 1 is just sitting on the stationary cycle. Rushing a scared child causes more setbacks. Our trainers are trained to recognise stress signals and back off whenever the child needs space.
The pedal-removal balance method is particularly effective for fear cases because the child cannot fall forward from sudden pedalling momentum. With feet touching the ground at any moment, the child has complete physical control — and that control eliminates the root cause of their fear.
Every age group learns differently. Here is exactly what to expect for your child based on their current age.
This is the ideal age to start. Children aged 4–5 have not yet developed a fear of falling and their bodies are light and naturally flexible. Balance develops extremely fast at this age. Most 4–5 year olds need 6–10 sessions to reach full independence.
What you need: A bicycle sized for their height (usually 12" or 14" wheel). We advise on exact size when you WhatsApp us.
Most of our students fall in this age group. Children aged 6–8 have excellent motor skill development and respond beautifully to structured coaching. This is typically the fastest learning age — many 7–8 year olds become independent cyclists within 5–6 sessions.
What you need: Usually a 16" or 18" wheel cycle. WhatsApp us height and age for exact recommendation.
Children this age are slightly self-conscious about learning in front of others — which is exactly why our private one-on-one sessions work so well. No peer pressure, no embarrassment. Pre-teens typically learn quickly in 4–6 sessions once they get started.
What you need: Usually a 20" or 24" wheel cycle. First session assessment helps confirm the right size.
Teenagers who never learned cycling often carry a degree of embarrassment about it. Our completely private sessions eliminate this entirely. Teenagers have excellent body awareness and strength — many learn to ride independently within just 3–5 sessions.
What you need: A full adult-size cycle. We can confirm exact requirement based on height.
"My 6-year-old was terrified of cycles after a small fall. The Experative trainer was incredibly patient — 5 sessions and she was riding alone around our entire Kandivali society. I cried watching her on Day 5. Best investment we made."
"Both my kids — 5 and 10 years old — learned together. The trainer adapted the approach completely for each age group at the same session. Within 8 sessions both were fully independent. Great value for money and very professional."
"My son is 9 and had given up on cycling after two bad falls. I was sceptical. The trainer rebuilt his confidence completely in 3 sessions — just let him go at his own pace. By session 7 he was doing full laps of our Malad compound at full speed."
